We are ... people of God of the Roman Catholic parish family of Saint Patrick, Kent. Through our baptism, we prayerfully use our varied God-given talents and treasures in our particular vocations in life, and in performing the spiritual and corporal works of mercy, to promote peace and justice. Together we celebrate Christ's presence in worship and sacraments.
We emphasize the importance of religious education for all our members. By reflecting God's love and proclaiming the Gospel, we earnestly desire to promote community with family, friends and neighbors, and so further the kingdom of God.

The parish provides opportunities for understanding the nature of Eucharist beginning in the earliest grades. A program designed to deepen parents' understanding of Eucharist and to assist them in preparing their children is provided. Parents are required to attend two formation sessions scheduled in February. First Eucharist is celebrated on the last Saturday in April each year.
Baptism of Infants
Parents seeking to have their children (newborn through seven years of age) baptized, are asked to please call the parish office to register to attend a Baptism Preparation session, which are offered on the first Thursday of every other month, beginning in January of each year. The sacrament of Baptism for children is celebrated on the third Sunday of the month following the 11:30 AM Mass.
Requirements for godparents: Traditionally, two people (one mal, one female) are chosen to be godparents for Baptism. Godparents are either two practicing Catholics, or one practicing Catholic and one practicing Christian of another denomination. The Catholic godparents must be at least sixteen years of age, baptized, confirmed and a practicing Catholic who attends Mass regularly. If either godparent is married, they are to be in a marriage recognized by the Catholic Church.
Sacrament of Reconciliation
Confessions are on the first and third Saturdays of the month only, in the church at 3:30 PM. Confessions may also be scheduled anytime by appointment by contacting Fr. Pentello at the rectory.
First Reconciliation
After two years of religious instruction, baptized children of St. Patrick parish normally celebrate First Reconciliation. The parish provides opportunities for understanding the nature of Reconciliation beginning in the earliest grades. Since parents, along with parish catechists, are primarily responsible for the child's religious education, a program is provided for parents of children preparing to receive the sacrament. Parents are required to attend two formation sessions scheduled in the Fall. First Reconciliation is celebrated in the month of November each year.
Confirmation
Students who have been baptized and have received First Eucharist complete their initiation into the Catholic Church through the sacrament of Confirmation. Normally, students are presented for Confirmation in the eighth grade. As with the other initiation sacraments, Confirmation is to be celebrated in the parish community where the candidate is registered. Preparation for the reception of the sacrament of Confirmation includes, but is not limited to, a minimum of two years of active participation in CCD or parochial school immediately prior to the celebration of Confirmation (normally those students in grades 7 and 8). In addition to these regular religious education classes, candidates for Confirmation must also attend separate Confirmation classes. The sacrament of Confirmation is celebrated every year at St. Patrick parish in the Spring.
Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults Adults desiring to become Catholic are invited to participate in the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA). This process, marked by stages and rites, offers the person the ability to explore the Catholic Faith and make a commitment to become a Catholic Christian.
Beginning in September each year, those in RCIA meet on Wednesday evenings at 7:00, in the Captain’s Cabin (meeting room in rectory basement). The celebration of Baptism, Confirmation and Eucharist at the Easter Vigil liturgy welcomes those who make a commitment to be initiated into the Catholic Church. Those involved in the RCIA process continue to meet through May, encouraging new Catholics to be involved in the faith community.
RCIA is for those adults who have never been baptized, those baptized in another Christian tradition and for those baptized Catholic but who have not received Eucharist or Confirmation. Catholics of the parish are also invited to attend the weekly RCIA sessions to learn more about their Faith.
“RCIA Adapted for Children” Children in grade three and older who have not been baptized or have not received Eucharist can prepare for the sacraments by attending the “RCIA Adapted for Children” sessions. These children will be prepared and welcomed into the Catholic Church at the Easter Vigil liturgy. For more information, please contact the St. Patrick Church Religious Education Office.
Marriage Preparation Couples desiring to be married at St. Patrick Church are to contact the priest at the rectory office at least six months before the intended wedding date. Marriage preparation involves the couple meeting with the priest a minimum of three times to discuss various aspects of a marital relationship as well as discussion of the sacrament of Matrimony. Engaged couples are also required to attend a one-day retreat sponsored by the Diocese of Youngstown, entitled “God’s Plan for a Joy-Filled Marriage.”
Sacrament of Anointing of the Sick Anointing of the Sick is available upon request. If hospitalized, please notify the parish office. The Eucharist is distributed regularly to the homebound by Eucharistic Ministers.
